Company history and milestones

Nuno Gonçalinho and Rui Pena began working together through Darwin Interactive in Portugal in 2019 and established Darwin Gaming in Malta in 2020. Their mission was to build casino games for the way people actually use smartphones: vertically, with one hand, clear controls and short sessions.

Darwin joined Yggdrasil’s YG Masters programme in 2021, giving the young studio access to a wider distribution and technology network. Crash Evolution then became a cornerstone of its instant portfolio. The company has since expanded through operator partnerships, particularly in Portugal and Latin America, and has developed numerous localised and branded crash variants alongside its core releases.

Games and areas of expertise

Darwin Gaming specialises in portrait-format mobile games and bespoke casino content. Its team handles design and development in-house, covering crash, instant games, mines, penalties, table games, bingo and slots. Many releases are tailored with an operator’s brand, market or sporting calendar in mind.

Crash Evolution is the studio’s leading crash game, using a familiar rising multiplier and automatic or manual collect controls in a compact portrait layout. Mine Crash shifts the risk into a mining theme, Crash Rising provides another direct multiplier experience, and Penalty Crash applies the collect-before-the-end decision to football. Bespoke editions allow the same mechanics to carry local club, event or operator branding.
